The new flag pole erected during the 2018 Tour has inadvertently become a pillar of the local community, thanks to its superb construction quality and resilience.

The Rotonda community is notable for its circular layout but this has long created problems for construction projects in the area because finding a reference straight line that can be relied on is so difficult.

Shortly after the new 200 Poonder flag pole was so skilfully erected by Kev & Andy, a local builder noticed it and realised that not only did it provide a reference straight line, but that it also was absolutely plumb upright, so could be used to ensure other structures were also built to the same exacting standards.

“I’ve been building in this area for over 20 years, and due to the goddamn circles everywhere, my walls have always ended up on the piss” said Kurt Wolffeltcher III, whose company builds villas on the Rotonda.

“Now we have the flag pole to compare against, my buildings are finally all ending up plumb and I don’t have my customers busting my ass about their ill-fitting doors any more” added Wolffeltcher.

A nearby manufacturer of spirit levels has also adopted the pole as a test rig for their products, and is considering siting their new factory in a vacant plot off of Par View Court in order to be closer to it, to reduce transport costs and production time lines, bringing much needed employment to the area.
